ABOUT THIS BOOK

Every conversion is a miracle of grace. Every minister of the New Covenant can exercise his ministry only through the grace that God has given to him. This book is a testimony to the grace of God in a few chosen cases of men who have spent their lives in His service. It is perhaps never easy to write fairly and truthfully about one's contemporaries, but these sketches are an attempt to place on record certain basic facts which should not be lost to sight. They are only a small and select group who were well known to the author, but their story represents that of a host of others. The great object in their life and work was that through the grace of God the prayer of St Paul might be fulfilled, namely, that 'Christ should be magnified'. And that is the object of this book.

The Most Reverend Sir Marcus Loane (1912-2009) was formerly Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and Primate of all Australia. For many years the Principal of Moore Theological College, Sydney, he travelled widely in Australia and overseas, bringing his theological, ministerial and devotional insights to many situations. His writing of books ranged over many decades.
